Description

Dwarf Molly (Poecilia chica). 

    • The Dwarf Molly is a livebearer fish native to the Mexican state of Jalisco. These little fish are known for their exceptional colors.
    • Size:
      • Females: Grow up to 42 mm in length. They are generally lighter in color, with orange spots on their sides and yellow to orange anal and dorsal fins.
      • Males: Reach up to 30 mm in length. They have longer fins and more intense colors, including black-margined dorsal and caudal fins. The dominant male is especially striking, with his entire body turning black and his gonopodium (reproductive organ) becoming orange. 
    • Habitat:
      • Juveniles prefer quieter and shallower habitats with dense vegetation.
      • Adults thrive in slowly flowing, shaded waters with rocky or gravelly bottoms. 
  • Reproduction:

    • Dwarf Mollies are livebearers, meaning that females give birth to live fry.
    • Females produce 1-50 young every 25-43 days with more births at higher temperatures.
